Into the Bellows is the festival's composer residency concert — the result of a three-month creative period.
In May, three composers landed in Littlestone for a week by the sea, with a single instrument between them and the hands of Ryan Corbett to write for. No prescription, no brief: just a week to fully explore what the accordion can do when you start from scratch.
The composers left with a month to finish the score. In July, you will hear the results: three brand-new works for solo accordion, premiered live at the festival.
Ryan Corbett is a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist — the first accordionist selected in the scheme's history — and a Royal Over-Seas League Gold Medallist. He's premiered concertos by Mikhail Pletnev and Daniel Soley, played Wigmore Hall and Konzerthaus Berlin, and performed for King Charles III at Balmoral.
