Overview
Weekly Sunflower Singing is a free, welcoming singing group designed to support wellbeing, confidence and social connection through music. Delivered in collaboration with the Romney Marsh Community Hub, the project brings people together regularly to sing, connect and build skills in a supportive environment.
How It Works
In 2026, professional vocal coach Rebecca Birkabaek-Lodge will lead weekly sessions throughout the year, working with participants towards three public performances, including appearances at JAM on the Marsh 2026.
By removing the weekly attendance cost, JAM has enabled participation to grow — with noticeable improvements in confidence, vocal skills and overall wellbeing.
Why Singing Matters
Singing is widely recognised for its positive impact on mental health, social connection and physical wellbeing. For many participants, Sunflower Singing provides a regular anchor in the week: combining creativity, routine and community.
The project supports
- Improved mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Increased confidence and self-belief
- Social connection and reduced isolation
- Ongoing skills development in a supportive setting
Participant Voice

Lasting Impact
Weekly Sunflower Singing demonstrates how consistent, free-to-access arts activity can make a meaningful difference to people’s lives — supporting wellbeing not just at moments of performance, but week by week throughout the year.
