Overview

Volunteers play a vital role in JAM’s year-round work, contributing time, knowledge and care to support the delivery of community activity across Romney Marsh.

Many of our volunteers are long-standing members of the local community, bringing deep connection to place and a strong sense of ownership and pride in JAM’s work.

How Volunteers Are Involved

Volunteers support essential aspects of JAM’s delivery throughout the year, including:

• Local planning, coordination and promotion

• Front-of-house support at events and performances

• Welcoming audiences and helping create a warm, inclusive atmosphere

Through this involvement, volunteers remain active, socially connected and meaningfully engaged in community life.

Volunteer Voice

“It was wonderful to be part of the team, welcome guests and see the community joy.” First-time volunteer
“Being involved, then looking forward to the next JAM on the Marsh, lifts my soul. I spread the word all year round — it is the highlight of my year.” Local volunteer, aged 66

Mutual Benefit

Volunteer engagement benefits both JAM and those who give their time. Volunteers gain purpose, connection and enjoyment, while JAM benefits from trusted local knowledge and a welcoming, community-led presence at events.

Lasting Impact

By valuing and supporting volunteers, JAM strengthens local networks, fosters intergenerational connection and ensures its work remains rooted in the communities it serves.
