JAM, the BBC Singers and spnm join forces
Friday 2nd September 2005After 5 years of promoting new composition in the UK, the John Armitage Memorial Trust (JAM) has joined forces with spnm and the BBC Singers in a two-pronged, exciting new collaboration.
The BBC Singers will perform 2 concerts with the Trust in March 2005. Nicholas Cleobury will conduct the concerts, featuring Andrew Watts, Onyx Brass and Daniel Cook, Assistant Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral, at the organ.
The second of the concerts will be recorded live at St. Bride's Church, Fleet Street, for broadcast on Radio 3. Further concerts are planned for July 2006, including Hexham Abbey and culminating in Edinburgh.
JAM and the BBC have co-commissioned Judith Bingham to write a large work for the JAM forces (chorus, brass quintet and organ), to headline the concert series. Paul Patterson's The Fifth Continent, commissioned by JAM for its 2005 series, will also be included in the programme.
JAM and the BBC Singers will combine with spnm's Writing for Chorus project by offering selected composers a workshop performance of their pieces submitted to JAM.
