Adam Gorb to write 2007 headline piece

Monday 2nd October 2006

JAM has been commissioning headline pieces for its annual concert series since 2002. Commissions to date include: Timothy Jackson, Jonathan Dove, John McCabe, Paul Patterson and Judith Bingham.

For 2007, JAM has commissioned Adam Gorb.

As with all JAM headline commissions, the piece will be written for choir, brass quintet and organ. Gorb will also write for bass soloist, Giles Underwood. The piece will examine the gritty world of oppression and incarceration.

John McCarthy, incarcerated for more than five years, will supply the backbone of the words to be set by Gorb, along with Ben Kaye, whose magnificent poems were set by Paul Patterson in The Fifth Continent (2005).

The piece will be approximately twenty minutes long and will receive its world premiere in March 2007 at the first performance of JAM’s 2007 concert series.
