Mousai Singers sings Handel Coronation Anthems, McCabe Songs of the Garden & Swayne The Yonghy Bonghy Bo
Handel’s Coronation Anthems, including the iconic Zadok the Priest, surround two wonderful JAM commissions: John McCabe’s Songs of the Garden and Giles Swayne’s The Yonghy Bonghy Bo.
Kent-based composer, McCabe, celebrates his 75th birthday this year and JAM commemorates the 10th anniversary of the commissioning of his brilliantly, vibrant Songs of the Garden, a charming procession of “animal” songs recently broadcast on Radio 3 from the Three Choirs Festival.
Giles Swayne’s The Yonghy Bonghy Bo receives its first English performance, following its world premiere in the St Davids Cathedral Music Festival this May. This is an emotional setting of Lear’s famous and wildly eccentric poem The Courtship of the Yonghy-Bonghy-Bo.
Regular JAM performers Daniel Cook – Sub-Organist at Westminster Abbey – and Onyx Brass join the Mousai Singers for a spectacular concert of old and new.
