About John
Upon retirement from a successful career in advertising John Armitage, at sixty, became a mature student studying music at Christchurch College, Canterbury. Sadly, during his third year, he died of cancer at the end of 1998. He was 63.
John was a trumpet player who loved many forms of music. More importantly, he was a great inspirer of people. He firmly believed that people could often achieve far more than they themselves ever dreamed they could.
Back in the summer of 1998 John discussed an idea for promoting little known, living composers with his son Edward. The basis of the idea included putting on performances and recording their work. As a marketing professional, he also wanted to try and introduce their music to radio stations, music journals and record companies.
Due to his death, the project remained as an idea only. The format of the project was never thought through, let alone finalised.
